We Are Not Woman Haters. Those words might sound strange at first, but if you grew up watching the “Our Gang” comedies, you understand where we’re coming from. For many of us, those black-and-white shorts were a staple of childhood. It was a great day when Spanky, Darla, and Alfalfa appeared on our TV screens. Though their adventures were from a generation before ours, they still felt like old friends. Something about those kids and their antics transcended time, making us feel like part of their gang.
I don’t know why exactly, but I connected with them from the first time I saw them. Maybe it was their innocence or the way they always seemed to be getting into trouble, just like we did as kids. They were always up to something — building a go-kart out of scraps, putting on a talent show in someone’s backyard, or scheming to make a quick buck. The storylines were simple, but the laughs were genuine. The world of the Little Rascals wasn’t perfect, but it was full of imagination and friendship.
